Also, if you are not sound mentally, then you may find it hard to even get into the physical exercises. There are many little things seniors, as well as the average person, can do to keep their minds sharp and focused. The brain is like a muscle, so it is important to keep it challenged and strong.

- Move your body:
Mental health and exercise go hand in hand. What you do to increase your mental ability can improve the way you work out. This also works the other way: exercising is essential for keeping your mind balanced.
- Meditation and yoga:
If you can, try and do some yoga a few times a week. If you have the patience and time to meditate, then give that a try.
- Read a book:
Reading books and magazines is a great way to keep your mind stimulated. If you enjoy reading, then try and have a novel ready for you to pick up whenever you have some free time.
If you have access to a community center or any other place where seniors can meet up, then utilize it. A healthy mind requires socialization.
- Keep in touch:
Another way to maintain socialization is to keep in touch with old friends and family. Give them a call every once in a while or meet up for lunch. Make it a routine so you always have regular interactions every week.
- Get a pet:
A great way to stay on top mentally is to get a furry companion. Pets have been proven to help people maintain their mental health.
Volunteering for a cause that you are passionate about can help keep your mind and body active. It can help you find people to interact with that have similar interests as yourself.
- Play a game:
Playing games like chess, bingo, dominoes, checkers, cards, crossword puzzles, and even video games can also help keep you sharp. Hobbies like these are a great way to keep you busy as well. If you have buddies that enjoy these kinds of things, then invite them too!
