Caregiver Job Outlook
The senior population continues to grow in Miami-Dade and throughout the country. Care is often left to family members, who are often busy and overworked themselves. Many seniors who live at home want to live independently, but need assistance to do so safely. For seniors who fall into this category, home health care in Miami from a trusted company like Advancare is the preferred solution.
As the number of seniors requiring home health care increases, the number of qualified caregivers will also need to increase. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of home health and personal care aides is projected to grow 33% from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. Much of the increase in demand is expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.
Caregiver Qualifications
Home health care and personal aides typically need a high school diploma or equivalent. Those working in certified home health must complete formal training and pass a standardized test. Some community colleges and vocational schools offer postsecondary nondegree award programs in senior home health.
The caregivers employed by Advancare are the most committed, highly qualified, and carefully selected in the Miami-Dade area. They are fully bonded and insured and receive continuing education that is exclusive to Advancare.
Average Caregiver Pay
Senior caregiver pay varies and will depend on your level of experience, the exact role that you’re performing, and your education. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for home health and personal care aides was $27,080 in May 2020. Most aides work full-time, although part-time work is common. Work schedules may involve evening and weekend hours, to best meet the needs of our senior clients.
What Senior Caregivers Do
Home health care aides typically monitor the condition of seniors with disabilities or chronic illnesses that require in-home care. Daily duties can include the following:
- Assist clients in daily personal tasks, such as bathing or dressing
- Assist in meal planning and meal preparation for seniors
- Help to plan appointments and organize the client’s schedule
- Shop for groceries and provide incidental transportation
- Complete light housekeeping duties
